Nose To Nose 02:51
My reflection’s unfamiliar Why do they seem so sad That couldn’t possibly be me I’m too pretty to feel this bad And I only wore this lipstick Hoping you could take it off It’s a shame when everything that you can’t have Is everything you want I’m nose to nose with myself again How do I get out of my head I’m standing on the edge of something Don’t wanna look and see how far it goes down I just wanna savor this moment Don’t wanna know how high I am from the ground I’m nose to nose with myself again How do I get out of my head I’m nose to nose with myself again How do I get out of my head

Smart Mouth 04:27
You say I’m such a smart mouth I never learned to shut up Never figured out how to be modest But if I was it wouldn’t be much fun Come on baby Just a little harder now I can’t wait To wipe the blood from my mouth I didn’t hear you, whatcha say I love when you say I’m your little smart mouth I’m such a smart mouth I can see your smile, this might take a while Just give me a chance and I’ll rip your heart out I’m such a smart mouth Don’t think twice about the marks that you’ll leave Like a teenager I want everyone to see Oh give me more just a little more You stumble so unsure I told you that I wanna feel something Feel something Tomorrow I wanna see Where your hands were around my throat Oh I wanna be reminded What it felt like to let go I didn’t hear you, whatcha say I love when you say I’m your little smart mouth I’m such a smart mouth I can see your smile, this might take a while Just give me a chance and I’ll rip your heart out I’m such a smart mouth Come on baby Just a little harder now Oh I can’t wait To wipe the blood from my mouth I didn’t hear you, whatcha say I love when you say I’m your little smart mouth I’m such a smart mouth I can see your smile, this might take a while Just give me a chance and I’ll rip your heart out I’m such a smart mouth

Giving Tree 03:47
You only come around when it’s dark outside I’m starting to think I made you up You’re never there when I open my eyes Tell myself every time it’s the last Then you’re calling at two in the morning And I’m too weak to say no to that I’m letting someone break my heart Who doesn’t deserve it Who doesn’t even want it Doesn’t he know it’s his So take all that I have Take all that I am I’ll be your giving tree In life the lessons we learn Are what carry us through I think the greatest lesson I’ve learned Is some things you aren’t meant to go back to So I’ll frame the words I wish you’d said I’ll hang them on the wall above my bed I’ll make an altar of imaginary things I’ll remind myself nothing’s real like the love you gave to me I’m letting someone break my heart Who doesn’t deserve it Who doesn’t even want it Doesn’t he know it’s his So take all that I have Take all that I am I’ll be your giving tree But I keep coming back to you Sometimes I need you so badly I forget you’re broken too I’m letting someone break my heart Who doesn’t deserve it Who doesn’t even want it Doesn’t he know it’s his So take all that I have Take all that I am I’ll be your giving tree

Out Of Tune 04:22
I’ve been feeling better nowadays I’ve stopped feeling like I’m falling When I hear your name And you don’t miss me I don’t think I mind After all you told me that Love is hard to find But I can’t be who you wanted me to be And I can’t see what you wanted me to see False promises and a broken melody You’ll say that I am out of tune But I can’t sing in your key I’ve stopped caring if I see you again And I stopped hearing how you are From a friend of a friend Time keeps passing But it won’t pass fast enough I’ve been waiting so patiently For when I won’t miss your touch But I can’t be who you wanted me to be And I can’t see what you wanted me to see False promises and a broken melody You’ll say that I am out of tune But I can’t sing in your key I thought if I took the time You might learn to love me It took a year of waiting at your door To realize I didn’t know what I came here for I can’t be who you wanted me to be And I can’t see what you wanted me to see False promises and a broken melody You’ll say that I am out of tune But I can’t sing in your key

The thing you need to know is You’re not sad he broke your heart You’re devastated that you let him Piece you together and watch you fall apart What you need to do now Is forgive yourself first I know it’s easier said than done I know there’s pain that you love to nurse Every time you go you take another piece of me Don’t you know you leave an empty space behind That feels like it’s the death of me Maybe it’s my own heart I heard beneath the floor It took me by surprise You would’ve thought I’d heard that sound before I know you look at him the way That you look at your favorite constellation On a night that’s crystal clear When the forecast called for heavy rain but Don’t forget he’s not the only star that you’ll ever see Don’t for a second think he’s the only star in your galaxy Every time you go you take another piece of me Don’t you know you leave an empty space behind That feels like it’s the death of me Maybe it’s my own heart I heard beneath the floor It took me by surprise You would’ve thought I’d heard that sound before Every time you go you take another piece of me Don’t you know you leave an empty space behind That feels like it’s the death of me Maybe it’s my own heart I heard beneath the floor It took me by surprise You would’ve thought I’d heard that sound before You would’ve thought I’d heard that sound before

Echoes 02:04
I’m scared to get lost in the echoes I’m scared to get lost in myself I’ve never tried being too careful I never learned how to ask for help Watch my tears fall in the mirror I look beautiful when I cry Is that why you made me do it So you could see yourself in my eyes Ooh Ooh And this song won’t have a chorus What could I write that you haven’t heard before That’s why it feels like something’s missing You always left me needing more
7.
In My Dreams 04:30
Can’t remember the last time Someone made me feel real I’ve been drinking Heaven Hill Just to see if I still feel I know if this was perfect And you wanted to stay I could never let something start to grow I know too well everything goes away I’ll keep writing songs about you Cause you’re so exciting to me For the past few years now I’ve been living like I’ve got somewhere else to be It’s truly amazing When I hear you speak I’m hypnotized by the ash of your cigarette As you talk about socialist regimes I’ll see you in my dreams When I said I wanna go home I meant I want to sleep in your arms Life’s too full of misunderstandings When you don’t understand anything at all It’s truly amazing When I see your face I’m hypnotized by how you walk away How you walk away from me I’ll see you in my dreams I’ll see you in my Can’t remember the last time Someone made me feel real I’ve been drinking Heaven Hill Just to see if I still feel I’ll see you in my dreams I’ll see you in my dreams

about

August Greenberg and Tyler Asay left a Philly open mic night at 4 a.m. and started a band. That nocturnal split decision defines Riverby at its core, a power-pop outfit fueled by teenage optimism and the timeless power of a punchy one-liner. Bassist Doug Keller was scooped up during a smoke break between sets, and Dan Nazario joined soon after on drums. Smart Mouth, the band’s debut album, came together much like their lineup—sporadically, then all at once. And like Riverby’s beginnings, Smart Mouth shows confident noise sometimes emerges from the darkest of hours.

Smart Mouth finds vocalist/guitarist Greenberg revisiting pieces of their past while confronting new territory for the first time. “The Tell Tale Heart” pushes past anguish and self-doubt to reassess personal tragedy—Greenberg wrote the first verse at nineteen, only to return to complete the lyrics six years later. “Nose to Nose,” with its smirking guitar line, sets up Greenberg’s appeal for self-confidence. You’d never guess it’s the first song they wrote on electric guitar. Closer “In My Dreams” points to a future after an album taking patient stock of the present. According to Greenberg, writing the song “felt like I was entering the eye of a hurricane and I could see clearly even though everything around me was falling into chaos.” Bio by James Cassar.

Produced by Justin Nazario and mastered by Ryan Schwabe (Beach Bunny, Hop Along), Smart Mouth is a testament to what can happen when you move with, not away from, life’s ups and downs. You might enjoy the ride.
